Kone: The Loyal

Kone came to us from Ewaso, Simba lodge near Samburu National park on 8th April 2019.She was found in despair from the death of her own mother, suckling and trying desperately to push her up, to revive her. Her mother died of natural causes on the banks of the Ewaso River. She is to say the least a brave, protective and caring young calf.

She went through process of love pampering, constant presence of the keepers, trust and feeling of acceptance. There are older girls at the nursery and unsurprisingly, everyone took a keen interest and accepted her especially Metumi and Sere.

However, as days turned into weeks, she embraced her human family. She is now one of our favorite and intricately very connected to the keepers and always one of the first to get to her milk bottle and fastest to hear which keeper is calling her name and find them and somehow manages to figure out who has her milk every day, and runs straight to the keeper with the goods. She’s a loyal friend to her companions, Metumi and Sere.

She is now 11 month old and is very happy with her new herd at Reteti, She’s a loyal friend to her companions. Despite her harrowing beginning, she has become playful and loving.

She is smart caring and brave and we feel so proud of her.
