Welcome to the brand-new Reteti Visitor Centre

Set to inspire and educate international and local visitors alike, our interactive, open-air centre was opened on 10 November 2024 by the President of Kenya, His Excellency Dr. William Ruto.

Nestled near the foothills of the breathtaking Mathews Mountain Range, the world-class hub gives every visitor a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at Reteti’s pioneering work, and what it entails to rescue, rehabilitate, raise, and ultimately release orphaned elephants back into the wild. The centre is a treasure trove of stories into the vital work being done to protect Northern Kenya’s elephant populations.

About the
Reteti Visitor Centre

Highlighting the meaningful work of Reteti’s passionate team of Samburu keepers, researchers, and rangers, the centre is also a testimony to generations of coexistence between the area’s Indigenous people and the wildlife with whom they share this land.

As the culmination of four years of planning by Save the Elephants, The Sarara Foundation, Namunyak Community Conservancy, and MASS Design Group, the centre provides a dynamic, hands-on experience for visitors of all ages.

It vividly portrays the plight of Northern Kenya’s wild elephant herds, and highlights the impact of key factors such as recurring droughts and erosion – as well as unwavering efforts over decades to restore their numbers, including rangeland regeneration.
